Every furnished listing has a bed in the photograph. That is the easy half, and it is the half everyone shows. The question that separates a room you can live in from one you have to finish yourself is what happens twenty feet away, in the kitchen — and almost nobody photographs a drawer.
Ask about the kitchen as a separate question
Not "is it furnished". Ask what is in the kitchen, and listen for whether the answer is a list or a reassurance.
A kitchen you can cook in from the first night needs a fridge, an oven, a microwave, a kettle, pots, pans, plates, bowls, cutlery and somewhere to put food. Here it also has a dishwasher. A kitchen that has the appliances and nothing else is a shopping trip on your first evening in a city you do not know yet.

- Is the internet installed and paid for, or available? "Internet ready" means a socket in the wall. Here it is a minimum 1 Gbps line we install and pay for.
- Is there a desk? Furnished often means bed and wardrobe. If you are studying or working from the room, a bed is not a workspace. Every room here has a desk and a task lamp.
- Are the photographs of this room? Ask to see the actual floor, not a show suite.
Why the gap exists at all
It is not usually dishonesty. A landlord letting one room furnishes the bedroom because that is what the listing photograph shows, and leaves the kitchen to whoever ends up sharing it. There is no standard and nobody is checking.
An operator letting hundreds of rooms cannot work that way. The kitchen is equipped once, for the suite, because otherwise every arrival is a negotiation about who owns the frying pan.
What the answer is here
In the room: a bed, a desk with a task lamp, a wardrobe and shelving. Every room has a window and the door locks.
In the suite: fridge, oven, microwave, dishwasher, kettle, pots, pans, plates and cutlery, shared with the two other residents. Hydro, heat, air conditioning, water and internet are inside the rent.
