Weston & Finch · Humbermede, North York

The corner of the city that just got a train.

Weston and Finch sits where the Humber valley meets northwest Toronto: a working, genuinely mixed neighbourhood with a light-rail line running through it, a river on its western edge, and some of the best-value cooking in the city along one avenue.

Getting out of here

Six ways off this corner.

Line 6 Finch West opened in December 2025 and runs along Finch Avenue from a stop near the door, west to Humber College and east to Finch West Station on Line 1. It is the change the neighbourhood had been waiting for, and it has arrived.

Campuses and hospitals

Where residents actually go each morning.

Times are door to door on public transit at a normal weekday hour, and they are honest. Downtown is a longer trip than the map suggests: if your campus or your office is in the core, budget for the commute before you sign.

What it is like to live here.

The valley is the point

The Humber River valley starts a few hundred metres from the front door and runs most of the way to Lake Ontario. There is a paved trail through West Humber parkland, wide enough to run two abreast, and it connects into the wider Toronto trail network. In spring it fills with birdsong and, in summer, with people running it at six in the morning before the heat arrives.

Eat like you live here

Finch Avenue West is one of the best-value eating streets in Toronto and almost nobody outside the neighbourhood knows it. Regina Noodle makes its pasta on site. Las Fronteras does Ecuadorian. Bun Bo Hue Pho is the Vietnamese place people come up from downtown for. Beyond those there is Caribbean, Colombian, Korean, West African and Bengali cooking within a fifteen-minute walk, most of it under twenty dollars.

Everything else on the avenue

Groceries, pharmacies, a bank, phone shops, barbers and a large furniture retailer are all along Finch Avenue West, so a weekly shop does not require a car. The Woodview Park branch of the Toronto Public Library, a community centre and an ice rink are within walking distance, and Humber Valley Golf Course is on the far side of the parkland.

What it is actually like

Humbermede — the neighbourhood on the map — is working, diverse and residential. It is not a nightlife district and it does not pretend to be. What it is: quiet at night, genuinely mixed, cheaper than anywhere with a subway stop, and now on a light-rail line.
